This was taken at work several months ago, when I used to work at a library. Sometimes I really do miss it: coming into work to see a tower of boxes filled with new books waiting to be opened and sorted and linked; doing mail runs and getting a first look at all the new magazines; shelving books and reading all the interesting ones… for a while, it was fun.

I can never look at a John Steinbeck book without immediately thinking of my high school history teacher, he loves him. Taken the other day at work while shelf-reading.

At work today I had the pleasure of coming across this gem, The Music of Painting by Peter Vergo. We recently received a whole order of art books so I’ve been in heaven while linking them, but it has been quite the distraction. The painting above by Francis Picabia was my favorite, I just loved the colors!

Reading a Children’s book that has 4 different stories going on at the same time. If I’M confused, imagine how the kids must feel. It’s called Black and White by David Macaulay. (Taken with instagram)

At work today I read this children’s book called The Man Who Walked Between the Towers about Philippe Petit, a man who walked across a tightrope from one of the Twin Towers to the other in 1974. I thought the illustrations were beautiful.

Came across this particularly colorful book at work today and couldn’t help but take a few minutes to thumb through it! I especially enjoyed the small chapter on Japanese manga, and the fact that Pokemon was mentioned (although I was patiently waiting for titles like Sailor Moon or even Rurouni Kenshin to show up, but they never did). Then I realized we paid about $58 for it, which, I don’t know, is a little ridiculous. Especially if you’re not going to mention Sailor Moon.

My coworkers at the library threw me and another coworker a surprise graduation party today! It was so sweet of them. They also got me a card and a little gift (the cutest little journal) and the strawberry cake was soo delicious!

Sailors and captains

The best thing about my job as a librarian’s assistant is reading all the books that come in before anyone else. When my boss found out I was taking a class in Children’s Literature last semester she unofficially made me in charge of choosing, ordering and processing all the children’s books and some of them are incredibly beautiful. This one is called Red Sings From Treetops: A Year in Colors by Joyce Sidman and I love it so so much. Illustrated by Pamela Zagarenski.
